BIRTH OF THE CITY OF THE MOCHIS.

In September 1872, Albert Kimsey Owen, an American civil engineer, arrived in Ohuira Bay to study for the construction of railroad tracks. Being there, he imagined a city. Owen named that city as Pacific City, which is currently named Topolobampo.
The American settlers led by Albert Kimsey Owen are the base or platform of the foundation of Los Mochis, because of the problems that arose between them, they left Topolobampo to emigrate to various villages in the region following the path of the Taxtes Channel. Two main towns were founded, first the Public and later the Plat.
In 1890, Benjamin Francis Johnston, a United States private accountant, came to the region attracted by the Owen City project and sees the opportunity to exploit resources like sugar cane. Edward Lycan, was a partner of Zacarias Ochoa, owner of a sugar mill called El Águila. Then the two found a new association. The Eagle Sugar & Refining Company, which later changed its name to Sinaloa Sugar Company and later to United Sugar Company (Los Mochis Sugar Company).
In 1898, Benjamin Francis Johnston laid the foundation stone of what would be one of the most important sugar factories in the northwest of the republic. The sugar mill, produced the demographic growth of Los Mochis.
The 20 of April of 1903, is founded by decree the mayoralty of Los Mochis, during the state government of General Francisco Cañedo. On June 1 of the same year, it entered into force, and the town of El Plat, legally passed to be called Los Mochis.
